5. What is Javascript?
JavaScript is not a direct component of HTML but a separate programming language. Whereas HTML is only for
displaying on the monitor JavaScript programs can create interactions and functions within HTML pages which
would otherwise not be possible without JavaScript, like the checking of information that was entered, or
calculations. Alongside with these we also created JavaScript functions which play a considerable role in the
minimization of the rate of data transfer between browser and web server.
Does my browser have JavaScript enabled?
6. What are cookies?
Cookies allow the storing of small data units via the web browser to the user's hard drive. This, however, is done
in a controlled manner! "Spying" of the user's hard drive is just as impossible as the placing of executable code,
for example viruses. Because when a cookie is written through a web server or through JavaScript it cannot be
determined where to save the data to on the user's PC; this is done by the web browser of the user. Also cookies
cannot write an uncontrolled amount of data to the user's PC but only a limited number of lines. Each one of such
lines defines a variable and assigns a value to these variables. A cookie can thus be compared to an entry in a
configuration file - the difference being that the cookie cannot talk to the configuration data on the user's PC.
Does my browser enable the use of cookies?
7. What is CSS?
Cascading style sheets, or CSS, are a direct addition to HTML. Using CSS the layout of web site can be designed more
accurately and easily. Web browsers starting with version 4.0 are able to display CSS.
