It was the aim of the book series founded by Georg Stadtmüller in 1964 to revive historical-philological Albanian studies which had a long-standing tradition in the German language areas before World War II. It was meant to provide a publishing platform for German and foreign researchers and to contain not only German but also English, French and Italian works. In the course of time, the following focuses emerged: pre-academic Albanian research, history of the Albanian language, endangered Albanian dialects in Italy and Greece and Albanian literary history. The history of Albanians under Turkish rule, by far not yet explored satisfactorily, was subject of further presentations. Recent publications focus on investigations of Old Albanian and Albanian dialect groups, but also on works directly relating to present times. This series of books, thus, aims at being both historical and future-oriented.
