This title deals with the idealizing portrayals of the Taoist priest profession in seventh century. Rights and standards of the Taoists, which where formulated at a time when the Taoists occupied a favorable position in government and society, are described on the basis of the writings connected with the name Chin-ming Ch’i-chen. The investigations also take in earlier epochs and present discourses on the culture of the Taoist priests in the larger context of the administrative and secular elite.
