Turkish is of both historical and contemporary importance in the lands of the former Ottoman Empire. This collection is based on the author’s articles published since 1978 in various sources. The works here synthesize, expand, and update the author’s research on verbal categories, language contact, typology, dialectology, and other topics pertaining to the Turkish language in the Balkans and to Balkan and Caucasian languages on present or former Turkish territory. Most of the chapters focus on connections with the Macedonian language or languages spoken in Macedonia.
