25 Years Have Passed represents another volume in the Funeralia-series, which is the result of many years of academic conferences devoted to the study of humans, their environment, and funerary practices. This publication in particular is the outcome of the 25th conference, which was attended by archaeologists, physical anthropologists, historians, and representatives of numerous other disciplines whose shared field of research is death and its cultural contexts.
The book as a whole is distinctly interdisciplinary in character, combining archaeological evidence with biological, environmental, and cultural perspectives. The collected contributions offer a wide-ranging exploration of key research problems: from transformations of funerary practices in prehistory, through the social and symbolic meanings of burial sites, to the application of modern analytical methods such as isotopic studies and digital documentation of human remains. Particular attention is given to case studies, which illuminate the relationships between humans and their environment, as well as the complexity of social and cultural bonds. The volume thus represents not only a collection of individual studies but also a dynamic and multifaceted reflection on the past, in which death becomes a starting point for reconstructing the lives, practices, and worldviews of past communities.
