This volume was published on the occasion of the 70th birthday of an outstanding Polish historian of antiquity, Professor Leszek Mrozewicz. It consists of 53 scientific texts in English, German, French, and Italian, written by scholars from Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain and Switzerland. They deal with the various problems of Classical Archaeology, Ancient History, Classical Philology, Byzantine Studies and the Reception of Antiquity.
The subject matter of texts is diverse and chronologically covers the period from the Hellenistic times to the Late Antiquity and Byzantine Empire. However, the main focus is on topics related to the history of the Roman Army and the Danubian Provinces, as well as Latin Epigraphy, which is Professor Leszek Mrozewicz’s main interest. The volume also contains several texts devoted to a wide range of political events and social and cultural issues of the ancient world and, in addition, contributions dealing with the reception and study of antiquity in Poland. The scholarly biography of Professor Leszek Mrozewicz and the complete list of his publications are also included.
